Connecting with Nature, Food and Tradition

2010-09-08_sunflowers.jpg

A few Wednesdays ago, I was walking through the Nathan Phillips Square Farmers’ Market over lunch. I kept seeing people wander by with the most amazing flowers; big beautiful blooms and vibrant colours peeked out from almost every canvas shopping bag – making me and many others smile.

Travelling with the family to the Greenbelt

2010-09-03_bm_family_camping.jpg

Camping has always been one of my favourite ways to spend my vacation. As a boy growing up in Germany, I went camping regularly throughout Europe, principally because it was the only affordable way to visit and stay at the place of interest. Over those years, I’ve come to appreciate camping for more than dealing with budget pressures.

Mini-Interview with Mark Cutrara and Cowbell!

b.jpg

Since the Tour de Greenbelt showcases the beautiful countryside and all it has to offer, I thought it'd be interesting to interview a restaurant in Toronto that takes everything from Ontario's countryside and brings it to the urban public.

It's a rarity to find a restaurant in TO that's 100% dedicated to using local, high quality (organic, free range, etc) ingredients. Cowbell, located at 1564 Queen St West, is one of the few restaurants that is leading the way when it comes to promoting, educating, and serving local food.

Here's my mini-interview with Mark Cutrara, Executive Chef and Owner of Cowbell! Enjoy!

Turn on Your Cameras and Tell Us What the Greenbelt Means to You

The time has come...

Get on your hiking shoes, pump up your bike tires, get out your resuable bags and turn on your cameras. The Reel Greenbelt Video Competition is now OPEN.

The competition is a great opportunity to show the world what Ontario’s 1.8 million acres of protected ecosystems, clean water, agriculture and local food (just to name a few) means to you in your daily life. Selected finalists will get to share their story with great minds in environmental policy, protection and advocacy at at the Friends of the Greenbelt Foundation’s International Greenbelts Conference, as the winning PSA's will be screened during the conference in March 2011.

If you’re a foodie, you know how much better things taste when they don’t have to travel 5000 kilometres to reach your plate. From the fresh tomatoes in your salad, to the thick and juicy burgers on your bun, to the peaches in your cobbler – local food just tastes better!
